Lodhi Gardens derives its name and historical significance from the Lodhi dynasty, which ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1451 to 1526. In the heart of bustling Delhi lies an oasis of tranquility that seamlessly blends natural beauty with rich historical heritage – Lodhi Gardens. It remains open to the public for visitors throughout the year bearing no fee for entrance which is ideal for everyone who would wish to experience and appreciate the historical and natural attractions offered there. Lodi Garden is one of the parks in New Delhi that does not require the visitors to pay any entry fee to access the park. Historically, Lodi Gardens were tombs and were constructed between the 15th and the 16th century by the Lodi and Sayyid dynasty. Lodi Garden is one of the prime tourist destinations in Delhi as it gives a feel of the ancient garden preserved in the city.

It is a very peaceful and maintained garden located in the heart of the city. Lodhi Garden nearest metro station is Jor Bagh of yellow line. Lodhi Garden opening time and closing time changes during winter season (October To March), it opens at 6 AM and closes at 8 PM. Visitors can visit here from sunrise to sunset, Lodhi Garden timings are 5 AM to 8 PM during summer (April To September). The park is well maintained and many people visit here for picnic as well as daily jogging.

Important Information for Young Explorers

The last housing estate to have been built by the British has now been taken over by the artists of India with over 50 murals and street art pieces. The market also has its own metro station (Khan Market Metro) on the Violet line. The Khan Market is a 10 minute walk from the northern entrance to Lodhi Gardens or a quick rickshaw ride from the south! It is not a very budget friendly area but sometimes you do just need to treat yourself! Once you have made your way there it is a free public park.

Lodhi Garden is renowned for its complex of beautifully landscaped gardens which are interspersed with historical tombs and other monuments. You could walk around the whole park from one end to the other in about minutes, but that’s without taking time to explore any of the tombs or gardens. When I lived in New Delhi, India, we were fortunate to live very close to Lodhi Garden, a gigantic park with landscaped gardens, ruins and ancient tombs. Lodhi Garden is a beautiful place to get away from the craziness that is Delhi — and you truly do feel like you’re somewhere else! A variety of birds live here and a lot more visit during winter. The monuments show the importance given to people after they died.

Located a few meters away from Bara Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad presents a mix of Hindu and Islamic architecture. The Bara Gumbad Masjid is located just next to the tomb. Even though there is no grave inside this tomb, it is still believed that someone of high rank, who is still unidentified, must have be buried here.
